Deadpool 3 Officially Stops Production Due to SAG-AFTRA Strike
We have just begun to see the effects of the strike from SAG-AFTRA. Just yesterday saw firsthand disruptions to the entertainment industry. The fallout began when the actors unions were unable to reach a settlement with with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers as of Thursday afternoon.
The Writers Guild of America has been on strike since May 4th, 2023. Almost immediately after announcing the strike, the cast of Oppenheimer walked out of the film’s world premiere. We are now learning of productions closing down as a result of the work stoppage.
Deadpool 3, featuring Ryan Reynold and Hugh Jackman has effectively stopped filming and the cast has joined the general strike. It was only Monday that fans of the upcoming film got a behind the scenes glimpse of Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds on set in their iconic costumes.

We also learned that Jennifer Gardner will reprise her role as Elektra from 2003’s Daredevil. All of the excitement surrounding Deadpool 3 will have to be put on temporary pause as the actors union continues to look for common ground with the Motion Picture Association.
Fran Drescher, president of the actors union, spoke out Thursday stating, “We are being victimized by a very greedy entity. I am shocked by the way the people that we have been in business with are treating us.”
During the strike, actors will not be permitted to promote past projects through conventions, interviews or panels, make public appearances, or promote via social media. Even Emmy award campaigning has taken a backseat to the strike following the nominations that were announced on Wednesday. As for now, the Emmy Awards are set to take place on September 18th on Fox.
