Dave Bautista Claims He is Done with Drax after ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3‘ Saying Shirtless Scenes are to Blame. During a recent interview and a slew of social media posts, actor Dave Bautista shared he plans to step away from his role as Drax the Destroyer in the MCU after filming wraps on Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3.

Dave shared on Ellen, “I’m going to be 54 years old by the time Guardians 3 comes out, and the shirtless thing is getting harder and harder for me,” Bautista elaborated. “the journey has come full circle and I’m just ready to kind of step aside and wrap it up.”

The shirtless scenes aren’t the only reason Dave is ready to retire from Superhero work, claiming he figured fans would understand that this was the natural progression for his character as the Guardians are set to finish their trilogy with Director James Gunn. Bautista has also shared is retirement plans doesn’t spell the end for his character, but that if Drax returns in future films or shows another actor would take his place.

I figured everybody assumed that this is how this works. We work in trilogies, and James Gunn has already announced that it’s his last film, and when James is done, I’m done.”

Though we will miss the comedic quips from Drax some fans are concerned that this could mean the Drax will not survive the story featured in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3. This has not been confirmed by the cast or crew, with Director James Gunn even brushing off the notion that his involvement shouldn’t sway the actors’ opinion to stay on board for future projects.
