Danny DeVito Joins the Cast of Disney’s ‘Haunted Mansion’ Live-Action Remake. Joining Owen Wilson, Rosario Dawson, Tiffany Haddish (Harriet the Psychic), LaKeith Stanfield, and the 999 Happy Haunts of the Haunted Mansion cast is famed actor and comedian Danny DeVito! According to a report from THR, DeVito will be playing “a smug professor” in the film, likely the “local historian” as indicated in the film’s synopsis.

The synopsis for the movie states: “Gabbie, a single mother, and her young son [who] recently purchased a New Orleans estate [the Haunted Mansion] at auction only to discover it isn’t quite as empty as they expected. Gabbie hires a grieving widower who works as a ghost tour guide [Ben Matthias], a psychic [Harriet], a priest, and a local historian to exorcise the vengeful spirit from the Haunted Mansion.”

The Haunted Mansion remake will not be a sequel to the 2003 film, but its own reboot of the franchise. Dear White People Director Justin Simien will be directing the upcoming film for Disney instead. Other production team leads include Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich as producers for the movie, along with writer Katie Dippold (Parks and Recreation, The Heat), who is penning the script for the feature film. Filming for Disney’s ‘The Haunted Mansion‘ is expected to begin filming in Atlanta, GA this month.
