John Williams is a Star Wars family household name, having scored all eight Skywalker saga movies, his music is legendary. Rogue One: a Star Wars Story was the first live-action Star Wars film not scored by Williams, with music written by composer Michael Giacchino. Some fans felt that the score didn’t quite live up to the rest of the films in the franchise, those fans better prepare for yet another new face in the Star Wars live-action family of composers.
Composer John Powell will be joining the Star Wars franchise writing the score for the next stand-alone Star Wars film. The young Han Solo film, which is currently untitled, will première in theaters May 25th, 2018. Powell plans to score the film in the style of the original Star Wars movies, while keeping his distinctive voice. Powell is an accomplished composer known for his work on the Bourne series, Shrek, Kung Fu Panda (1 & 2), and How to Train Your Dragon (1 & 2), earning an Academy Award nomination for How To Train Your Dragon.
