Last week, I did an article that focused on the Walt Disney Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con, which you can find here. But I think it’s time to take a closer look at one of this year’s most anticipated films, ‘Wreck-It Ralph’, Disney Animation’s newest film due out November 2, 2012. The film follows the Wreck-it Ralph, the villain inside of an arcade game from the 80s. But Ralph is tired of being the bad guy so he leaves his game to become a hero in a new one. It’s a very fun and interesting concept, and what we’ve seen so far has been great. It’s one of the movies I’m most looking forward to right now. ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ features the voice talents of John C. Reilly, Sara Silverman, Jane Lynch, and Alan Tudyk. Hit the jump for a description of the footage, a video of the panel featuring the cast and director, and my reaction to it.
‘Wreck-It Ralph’ is is one I’ve been looking forward to since D23 last year, where I saw the first six minutes of the film. While at the time it was only in storyboard form, it was charming, quirky, and very funny, so I couldn’t wait to see how the movie progressed. What we were shown at Comic-con was same opening of the film, but in a finished state, and let me tell you, ‘Wreck It-Ralph’ definitely seems to the movie to look out for this fall. The movie looks to be so well written and chock full of great entertainment, I’m dying to see it already. The film opens on an a little arcade where a game known as ‘Fix-It Felix, Jr.’ Ralph (John C. Reilly) is narrating to us about his life, and how his life isn’t what he’d like it to be. Everyone loves Fix-it Felix, Jr., but poor Ralph gets thrown off buildings, lives in a dump, and is disliked by everyone in his game because he wrecks things. Ralph wants to be loved for once, and really feel like the hero in his game. It is then we’re shown that Ralph is inside a villains self help group with many other famous game villains such as Bowser, one of the PacMan ghosts, Dr. Eggman from Sonic, Zangeif from Street Fighter, and Kano from Mortal Kombat. They all look at Ralph, telling him that it’s nothing to worry about, because just because he’s a bad guy, it doesn’t make him a bad guy. It’s just his job, and that he needs to love him for himself, and not what others will think of him. But Ralph doesn’t agree with that, and says he wants to leave his game, which makes everyone around him freak out about. They tell him that he can’t leave, and that’s just not going to happen. The meeting adjourns and everyone leaves the room, which we then find out is, comically enough, the middle box in the PacMan game. They all wander out through the grid, in 8 bit forms, and as cherries pop up on the screen, Ralph goes down, grabs them, and takes them with him. The scene was really funny, and really heartfelt. It’s just a really great opening, and I really can’t wait to see what the rest of the movie has to offer.
We were then shown a few brief scenes, one including a look inside ‘Hero’s Duty’, a mix between ‘Halo’ and ‘Call of Duty’, where Jane Lynch plays a seasoned Captain in a futuristic army. The scene featured Fix-it Felix, Jr. as he entered ‘Hero’s Duty’ looking for Ralph. He comes in contact with Jane Lynch’s character, who he begins to fall in love with. Just a hilarious little scene that really shows just how great and fun the movie really is going to be. I can’t wait it. It was also revealed to us that Skrillex will be doing the music for ‘Hero’s Duty’ inside the movie. Skrillex is a three time Grammy winner who is known for his solo career and music producing. I’m a big fan of his music, so I’m very excited to see what he does here.
And to top it all off, I have found a video of the ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ panel featuring cast members John C. Reilly and Sara Silverman, and director Rich Moore as they talked about the movie. I thought you guys would really like to see this, so here it is. Thanks to Inside the Magic for letting us use the video in this post.
