Originally released in 1950, this Disney film favorite has a fan following that spans the generations. I remember watching this beloved movie with my Aunt when she would babysit me. I remember how I felt as I saw Cinderella magically transformed by her fairy godmother. I remember the romance of the “So This is Love” ballroom scene. The magic of that moment for me lives…I experience it every time I walk into the Magic Kingdom and see that wonderful castle! So, it should come as no shock to you that I am LITERALLY counting down the days until October 2nd. I can’t wait to see this film as it is Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo-ed into Blu-ray perfection!
Like so many Disney movie lovers, I am excited to add this release to my collection! I am also excited to see the bonus materials, especially the feature on Mary Alice O’Connor called “The Real Fairy Godmother”. This amazing woman was the real deal; a real life fairy godmother, who dedicated her life to passionately serving as a volunteer, for children, families, and people, the world over. Her heart for serving has helped to keep her legacy alive. Her husband, Ken O’Connor, was a Disney animator and Imagineer during the making of Cinderella. He drew inspiration for the character from his then 30-year-old wife. It is amazing to me how much she did end up looking like his animation…I wonder if that was fate? I am in love with their story and I am so excited to see how Disney honors this real life fairy godmother!
