Chris Hemsworth Thinks Marvel Movies Can Help Theaters When They Reopen

Chris Hemsworth Thinks Marvel Movies Can Help Theaters When They Reopen. Recently, Chris Hemsworth spoke with Inquirerhttps://www.inquirer.com/entertainment/chris-hemsworth-new-movie-extraction-opening-when-april-24-interview-20200419.html about his newly released film, Extraction on Netflix, and was asked by the interviewer if he thought the films from the MCU could be key in saving movie theaters after they reopen when the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.

“I hear those concerns, too. That [the MCU] takes up so much real estate, [and] is there enough room for the other things to exist, the art house films and the smaller films we love and admire equally,” Hemsworth shared. “Films [like Marvel] that you can best appreciate on the big screen, those will draw people out of their homes again. I’m with you on that.”

Some popular theater chains, including AMC Theatres, are projected to be in major financial trouble once theaters are allowed to reopen their doors. Wall Street analysts believe AMC Theatres and other theater chains may be forced into bankruptcy due to insufficient funds to maintain rent to landlords and the costs associated with reopening.

“We are ever so disappointed for our moviegoing guests and for our employee teams that the new CDC guidelines that Americans should not gather in groups larger than 10 people make it impossible to open our theatres,” AMC CEO and President Adam Aron wrote in a statement for the company. “Still, the health and wellbeing of AMC guests and employees, and of all Americans, takes precedence above all else. We will continue to monitor this situation very closely and look forward to the day we can again delight moviegoers nationwide by reopening AMC movie theatres in accordance with guidance from the CDC and local health authorities.”

According to a report by Variety, S&P Global Ratings reduced AMC Theatres rating from a B to a CCC-. “We do not believe AMC has sufficient sources of liquidity to cover its expected negative cash flows past mid-summer, and we believe the company will likely breach its 6x net senior secured leverage covenant when tested on Sept. 30, 2020, absent a waiver from its lenders,” S&P Global shared in their ratings note.

“The company will likely pursue incremental financing through the CARES act or its lenders, but it is unclear when or if it will be able to secure additional liquidity,” S&P Global stated.

It is currently unknown when AMC Theatres will re-open, if at all, but we hope they will be able to recover and keep providing the excellent movie-going experience we have come to know and love in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World and Downtown Disney District in Disneyland. We also love the idea of being able to see titles from the MCU in theaters again!

Would you like to see your favorite titles in theaters again when they reopen? Which film would you like to see the most? We would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.
