Disneyland theme park celebrated the launch of the Mickey’s Toontown neighborhood 25 years ago today (On January 23, 1993). The premise was simple, this area had been the home of Mickey and friends for decades but on this special day, they officially opened the gates (and their homes) for the general public to explore. Disneyland threw out all the stops to celebrate the premiere of Toontown and many of Mickey’s celebrity friends came out to enjoy the fun. Here’s a quick walk down memory lane as we highlight a few of the familiar faces that showed up on the day!
Both George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were there for the launch of Toontown.
As were Dan Aykroyd, Robin Williams and Sally Field (pictured above).
Candice Bergen was also on hand to celebrate with Minnie!
As was Ted Danson.
And last but not least, check out this awesome trio of Tony Danza, Danny Devito and John Davidson!
Mickey’s Toontown still remains a fan favorite today. Kids of all ages enjoy this interactive metropolis full of quirky architecture. Guests can visit the houses of Mickey, Minnie and other classic Disney characters, hop into Lenny the Cab in Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin and zip around on Gadget’s Go Coaster. Guests can also grab a bit at Daisy’s Diner or a hotdog at Pluto’s Dog House. Or for those with a sweet tooth, head on over to Clarabelle’s for some ice cream! There’s a lot to celebrate as Toontown turns a quarter of a century! Here’s hoping for another amazing 25 years to come!
