‘Captain Marvel 2’ Will Begin Filming in the UK Next Year

‘Captain Marvel 2’ Will Begin Filming in the UK Next Year. According to Murphy’s Multiverse, Marvel Studios has signed on with a production company in the UK, with heavy signs pointing to Captain Marvel 2 as the film being worked on across the pond. CM2 will begin filming sometime in 2021, after UK Studios reopen for American filmmaking. It is currently unknown if the UK will be the primary filming site for the film, or if only a portion of the movie will take place in the United Kingdom.

The first film shared the origin story for the Air Force Pilot turned Superhero, Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, and was set back in the 90’s. It is currently unknown if the sequel will also take place before her introduction to the Avengers in Avengers: Infinity War or if the story will pick up on what Danvers is up to post Avengers: Endgame. The film is reportedly going to tie into the Secret Invasion Marvel Comics series, which featured a storyline about how deeply the Skrull, featured in the first film, secretly invaded people with positions of power on Earth, including prominent heroes within the Avengers!

We don’t know exactly what this will mean for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the possibilities have us buzzing! Director Nia DeCosta (Candyman) has been signed on to direct Marvel Studios’ Captain Marvel 2 starring Brie Larson, with Megan McDonnell (WandaVision) having been tapped to pen the script for the sequel.

Rumors have also been swirling for months now that Henry Cavill will be joining Brie Larson, potentially as the new Wolverine (from the X-Men), and will at first be considered the villain of the film. This has the potential to be the first time one of the X-Men characters will appear in the MCU. There has been no official word from Marvel Studios about Cavill’s casting and Brie Larson is the only credited cast member at this time.

Currently, Captain Marvel 2 is set to premiere in theaters on July 8, 2022. No delays in production have been announced at the time of writing. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Marvel!
