Is it possible for an ”Amazing Spider-Man 3” to save Sony’s movie universe?
Critics agree that Sony’s ‘Morbius‘ starring Jared Leto is a letdown. The movie was plagued with delays and many critics cited the film was lackluster, borderline ableist, and tried too hard to establish a separate franchise featuring a villain from the Spider-Verse. It should be noted that the performances of the actors and actresses involved in the film were barely mentioned in most reviews, and the chief complaint among critics and audience reviews was that the story itself lacked substance.
At the time of writing, Morbius has earned a morbid 17% rating by critics and a 67% rating by audiences. The critic rating of 17% is the lowest critic rating to date for any Marvel-related movie title.
The newly-released Morbius appears to hint at a connection between Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters and some Spider-Man movies we’ve seen before. In this case, we are referring to the Andrew Garfield movies.
There is a lot of hype for Andrew Garfield after Spider-Man: No Way Home. His return is so well-received that it even caused ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’ to trend on Twitter alongside the hashtag #MakeTASM3.

Spider-Man: The hero we deserve
Even though there’s no official production plans for a third film, Sony will need to reevaluate their Spider-Verse plans if they wish to continue with financially successful movies.
So far, Sony has made two Venom films and Morbius, with many more movies to come in the future. Currently, the universe only exists to set up Spider-Man villains, but it has no Spider-Man for them to fight.
Bringing Andrew Garfield back would certainly appeal to Marvel fans who on the fence about Sony’s movie universe.
