Cameron Boyce’s Memory Honored in ‘Descendants: The Royal Wedding’ Special. Fans of the Descendants films eagerly awaited the arrival of The Royal Wedding special on Disney Channel, with many expecting the story to address the absence of Carlos, who was played by Cameron Boyce before his passing.

Disney has shared that the choice to make an animated special versus another live-action film was an easy one as the entire cast and crew could not see themselves making another movie without Cameron. The studio refusing to recast the role in honor of his memory. Cameron unexpectedly passed away in his sleep in July 2019 from a seizure brought on by complications with epilepsy. To honor his memory, the special refuses to recast the role and took on an animated spin.
During the new special, the primary cast with Sofia Carson as Evie, Booboo Stewart as Jay, and Dove Cameron as Mal spent a private moment on the way to Mal’s wedding where Jay and Evie present Mal with a special charm bracelet featuring the VK Crests of each descendant, a Bitten Apple for The Team), Cobra for Jay, Crossbones for Carlos, Double Dragon for Mal, and Crowned Heart for Evie.

The heartfelt interaction was shared by the Disney Descendants Instagram page along with the caption, “Carlos will always be in our hearts ?”

Written by Sara Parriott & Josann McGibbon and Ricky Roxburgh, Descendants: The Royal Wedding is based on the Descendants movies by Parriott & McGibbon. The animated special is directed by Salvador Simó and produced by Final Frontier Entertainment. The new special will be available to stream on Disney+ beginning Friday, September 17th. Descendants 1-3 are currently available to stream via Disney+.
