California is once again requiring individuals to wear masks while indoors. This requirement is being implemented again due to a rise in Covid-19 cases.
The new mandate will be in effect from December 15 to January 15. “We know people are tired and hungry for normalcy. Frankly, I am too,” Health and Human Services Secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly said. “That said, this is a critical time where we have a tool that we know has worked and can work.”

The daily COVID-19 case rate has gone up 47% since Thanksgiving. Masking was previously a recommendation statewide — except in certain indoor spaces like public transit and schools, where it was required — but it will now be a requirement in all indoor settings.

Disneyland already has a requirement that regardless of vaccination status, all guests are required to wear masks while indoors. This new mandate doesn’t make any changes to Disneyland’s current health policies.
California is also tightening existing testing requirements by ordering unvaccinated people attending indoor events of 1,000 people or more to have a negative test within one or two days prior to the event, depending on the type of test.
Also, California is recommending travelers who visit or return to the state to get tested within five days of arrival.
