Brightline confirms train station will be near Disney but not on property

We recently learned that there will no longer be a Brightline train station at Disney Springs as part of the new rail line connecting Orlando to southern Florida. Brightline has confirmed that a station is in the works that will be near Disney, but not on property.

Brightline recently altered its plans to include stops on International Drive to service Universal Orlando Resort and other attractions. One train station will be added at the Orange County Convention Center as well as a new alternative station near the now-defunct Disney Springs location. The train route will connect those stations to the Orlando International Airport.

“Together, the three integrated stations provide access to the largest economic and employment centers in Central Florida, and offer the best opportunity for the success of Brightline and SunRail [Central Florida’s commuter train],” said Ben Porritt, Brightline senior vice president of corporate affairs.

Brightline has multiple parties invested in the new route, including Universal Orlando. The previous route was not a very popular one with most businesses in the area.

“Late last year, we were asked by several community leaders to explore alternative alignments for our planned expansion from [the Orlando airport] to Tampa. The original plan called for a single station at Disney Springs. Along with a broad range of stakeholders, we have identified a solution now known as the Sunshine Corridor, which contemplates two new stations and integrates Brightline’s intercity service with SunRail through an east-west expansion,” said Porritt.

We don’t know exactly where the train station will go, but it looks like Brightline will get it as close to Disney World as possible.

  1. Makes me wonder if Gov. DeSantis didn’t have his hand in Brightline no longer building a station at Disney Springs!
