Bob Iger Announces Disney Legend Ming-Na Wen Will Be In ‘The Mandalorian’. During the Disney Legends Award Ceremony of the 2019 D23 Expo, Disney CEO Bob Iger, announced a special surprise for Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars fans!
Newly inducted Disney Legend, Ming-Na-Wen, will have a role in Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian for Disney+. You may know Ming-Na from her roles as June Woo in The Joy Luck Club, Mulan in Mulan, Mulan II, Sofia the First, and Ralph Breaks the Internet, and as Agent Melinda May, aka The Calvary, in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
“I have hit every bucket list thanks to Disney,” says Wen in reference to being in the Disney, Marvel, and now Star Wars universes.
“When people ask me how I get my inspiration for all these strong female role models… it’s my mom. And she’s here. Single mom, held down 3 jobs to raise her kids, met my stepfather and he was able to bring us to America, and she is a woman warrior! Through and through,” Wen shared during her acceptance speech.
Ming-Na was also the focus of interviews during the D23 Expo Live! livestream. She shared some of her favorite Disney memories and films, including her chance to share a movie credit with her daughter Michaela in Ralph Breaks the Internet. Wen reprised her role as Mulan for the film and her daughter voiced one of the characters in Litwak’s Arcade.
Though Iger shared news that Ming-Na Wen would be in The Mandalorian on Disney+, it is not yet known who her character is and what level of involvement she will play in the franchise. We are so excited to see Ming-Na in the Star Wars universe and can’t wait to see her in action when Disney+ launches November 12, 2019.
