‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ to Resume Filming Next Month

In unfortunate news, it seems Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Letitia Wright’s injuries were more extensive than initially suggested. According to undisclosed sources, Wright suffered both a concussion and shoulder fracture, which has delayed production until January 2022. Letitia Wright suffered the previously undisclosed injury on set in Boston back in August due to a failed stunt rig incident and now production has had no choice but to cease as Wright takes time to heal properly and the crew awaits her return to set to finish the film.

The last of the scenes that could be filmed without Letitia’s involvement took place back in November, with the cast and crew reportedly being sent home the week of Thanksgiving once filming wrapped. The cast and crew are currently set to return to the studio and finish filming in January 2022.

While speaking with Comicbook on the Phase Zero Podcast, Marvel producer Nate Moore shared about the sequel film, “I think this movie has different sort of pressure on it, obviously, with the loss of Chadwick, which was unexpected and unprecedented in a way narratively, to figure out how to deal with. So beyond, ‘Hey, we want to make a big, fun time,’ and people of the first movie, it’s how do we sort of do right by his legacy and tell a story that isn’t exploitative, which we would never, ever do, but builds on the things that he loved about the property and builds on the things that he brought to the property in a way that is enjoyable, feels real, feels earned, feels organic. Because I think we’re going to see the movie in two lenses, pure entertainment, but also cathartic. And we have to be conscious of both of those lenses as we’re making it.”

Moore added in the interview, “I mean, I would be lying if I didn’t want people to be most excited about Black Panther 2, just because that’s what I’m thinking about 24 hours a day. But no, but I think everything is becoming more different. And that’s something we talk a lot about. And again, for better or for worse what Eternals is doing, is showing you that we can do different kinds of things. Because we’re quite aware of how much stuff we make. We’re super aware of the movies we’ve made in the past. For us, as we go forward, it’s how do we make Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness different from Thor: Love and Thunder, different from Wakanda Forever, different from The Marvels, different from Ms. Marvel, different from Hawkeye. There is a lot of stuff.”

Marvel Studios recently shifted the theatrical release schedule for the remainder of Phase 4. Fans are convinced that Letitia’s injury was partly a concern regarding the delays, but Disney has yet to confirm the other list of factors they claim led to the delays. Instead, they’re choosing to focus on shifting projects around to better space out the theatrical releases. Marvel Studios President and CCO Kevin Feige shared with Variety last month, “It’s production shifts and changes, and because we have so many slots, we can just shift slots. All the Marvel slots are the same, we’re just shifting when they’re coming out. And yes, Strange [in the Multiverse of Madness] has moved six weeks, so instead of there being three months between Marvel movies, there will be five months between Marvel movies and I think we can all handle that.”
