If there was one souvenir I would recommend you purchase while visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal it would be an interactive wand. These wands let you cast spells all throughout Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade. It really brings the whole experience together and makes you feel like a real wizard/witch.
CHOOSING YOUR WANDS
Let’s talk about the different wands you can get at Universal:
There are both interactive wands and non interactive wands. The interactive wands are the ones that allow you to cast spells throughout the Wizarding World. They run around $55 before discounts and tax.
Then there are non interactive wands. You won’t be able to cast spells around with them. Some of the book/movie characters don’t come in interactive yet so this is an alternative. They run around $49 before annual pass discount and tax. Note: some character wands or collectors editions are more expensive.
There are a couple places you can buy your wand while at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter but I recommend Ollivanders in Diagon Alley. You can even watch a wand choosing ceremony and maybe be chosen! If you’re not going to Diagon Alley there’s also an Ollivanders in Hogsmeade. You can also purchase wands at carts and at the shops at the front of both parks.
CASTING SPELLS
Once you have your interactive wands it’s time to do magic! Each wand comes with a map full of spells to do all around both Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade.
The spells are marked with a medallion on the ground with the wand movement. There are sensors which pick up the movement and a fun spell is cast! It’s such an amazing experience and I highly recommend if you’re planning a visit. It really makes you feel like your immersed in the Wizarding World. There are 11 spell casting locations in Diagon Alley, 9 in Hogsmeade and 5 in Knockturn Alley.
WAND REPAIR
If your wand suddenly stops working correctly no worries! Ollivanders has a wand repair and you can bring your wand in. It’s a very quick process, almost like magic.
TAKE FUN PHOTOS
Wands are also your best photo accessory! Show them off in fun photos all around the Wizarding World. There are so many fun photo opportunities you won’t want to miss them.
