Ryan Reynolds Brings Back ALF to Television

Ryan Reynolds is bringing back the 80’s television icon Alf on his “Maximum Effort” Channel. Maximum Effort is a free ad-supported channel that can accessed through services like Amazon Freevee, Tubi, and Fubo. Maximum Effort has acquired the rights to re-air older episodes of Alf, the sitcom about an alien stranded here on earth.

The show revolves around the Tanner family, whose lives take a quirky turn when they encounter an extraterrestrial being named ALF (Alien Life Form). After crashing his spaceship into their garage, ALF, a furry and sarcastic creature from the planet Melmac, becomes a part of the family.

Living secretly in the Tanner’s home, ALF brings both laughter and chaos with his mischievous antics and constant efforts to adapt to Earth’s culture. The show delves into the challenges of keeping ALF’s existence hidden while navigating the comedic and heartwarming moments that arise from the interaction between a suburban American family and their alien houseguest.

ALF’s blend of clever humor, touching family dynamics, and ALF’s lovable yet peculiar character made it a beloved series during its original run and garnered a dedicated fan base. The show’s unique premise of a wisecracking alien trying to fit into human society and the chemistry between ALF and the Tanners made it a memorable and enduring classic of 1980s television.

Reynolds explained the revival by saying, “Besides my irrational love of ALF growing up, one of the reasons we licensed this show was precisely because Paul, Shout! Studios and our intrepid brand partners wanted to plot with us to bring ALF back to life. Tune in this Caturday!”

The Maximum Effort Channel launched in June, as part of a deal with Fubo. Alf will appear in a series of commercials during an ALF marathon dubbed “Caturday” that will air July 29th.
