Adam Hicks, a former Disney star, and his girlfriend, Danni Tamburo, were arrested January 24th, in relation to a string of armed street robberies in Burbank, authorities have said.
Hicks, 25 and Tamburo, 23, attempted five armed robberies, two of which were successful.
Burbank Police Department Lt. Claudio Losacco said that “All the property has been recovered, as was the handgun we believed used in the robberies.” Property recovered includes a cellphone, wallet, necklace and credit cards.
“Our belief is the female was driving the car, and the male was doing the actual robberies,” Claudio also stated.
A 52-year-old man was the first victim in this string of robberies that started around 5:15 on Wednesday morning. The man was walking near Burbank Boulevard and Griffith Park Drive when he was approached by a man with a handgun. The suspected pointed the gun at the man and asked for his wallet but the victim ran away, according to authorities.
While that first incident was being investigated, three more armed robberies all occurred within minutes of the each other. They were all in the Burbank hillside community and all involved victims out for a walk. Each victim gave a similar description of the suspect and the vehicle used. The vehicle was described as a dark-colored Kia with at least two occupants, authorities said.
A Kia matching the description was spotted on the 1600 block of Scott Road and when officers responded they found the car and a woman connected to at least one of the suspects in these crimes. The authorities do not believe that woman was aware of the robberies and was not in the vehicle during the time the crimes were committed. Lasacco did say that she is a family member related to Tamburo.
In the vehicle, property belonging to one of the robbery victims was recovered.
Around 1:15pm, Burbank Police Department Detectives and S.W.A.T. arrived at a home believed to be linked to the suspects. A search warrant was served and Hicks and Tamburo were placed under arrest.
Officers on scene requested that the pair come outside of the house, and “they came out” with no issues, Losacco stated.
Losacco said that the couple robbed two victims in their 70s, two victims in their 50s and one victim who was about 20, all within a couple miles.
Tamburo was the driver, authorities said, and additional stolen property was found in the home during the serving of the search warrant.
There were no injuries as a result of the crimes, authorities said.
Hicks is best known for his role as skateboarder Luther from the show “Zeke and Luther” on Disney XD, which ran from 2009 to 2012. He appeared in the 2015 film, “The Boy Next Door,” staring Jennifer Lopez. He has a regular role in Hulu’s current high-schoolers-vs.-mutants series “Freakish.”
When asked about Hicks’ Disney Channel past Losacco said that was not something the authorities were interested in looking at.
Tamburo was released on $350,000 bail Thursday night, while Hicks remains in jail in lieu of $550,000 bail. Both are due in court in Burbank for arraignment February 16th.
