Activities Available at Disney Aulani Resort and Spa

Disney Aulani Resort and Spa created this view just for you. Can you imagine sitting back in a pool lounge chair watching this sunset? If you visit Disney Aulani Resort and Spa you can.

Sure Sunsets are nice, but you can have those at home too right? Maybe not nearly as beautiful as that, or maybe yours are? You might want to know some of the other activities you could do beyond enjoying a leisurely day by the ocean or pool.

Here’s a highlight of the activities available at Disney’s Aulani Resort and Spa:

Let’s start with the most obvious one since we’re on an island. The Beach. It was absolutely perfect, white sand beaches, and perfect ocean water. As the beach is located on an inlet, the man made breakers keep the big waves from entering the area. This allows you to enjoy some paddle surfing, canoeing, snorkeling and swimming for all ages.

Keeping with our water theme, The Pools at Aulani are amazing. Yes, I did say Pools, as in plural. First pool is the big one, Waikolohe Pool, This is an 8200 Square Foot pool with water slide entries, Shake A Shaka Pool Party and more entertainment. Second pool, Wailana Pool, is a secluded pool with it’s own bar. (Note: currently part of a renovation – will reopen Fall 2013). Next pool is my favorite, Rainbow Reef, This was a private snorkeling lagoon that was made by Disney. It is a perfect place for you and your kids to learn to snorkel. No waves and lifeguards on duty make this a safe place to explore. Additionally, there is a lazy river you can float down called Waikolohe Stream.

Aulani has a few Restaurant choices, including a character breakfast. The nicest restaurant available at Aulani is Ama Ama, located just up off the beach, you will enjoy fantastic Hawaiian favorites with the most amazing views. Located in the main building of Aulani is Makahiki, which provides a buffet of tastes from around the world. Makahiki also is where you will find Aunty’s Breakfast Celebration, a fun activity for the whole family with visits from your favorite Disney friends. When at the Pool area, you may order food to be delivered to you from Mama’s Snack Shop or head over to Off The Hook where I had more than my share of the famous Hawaiian Mai Tai’s and enjoyed their amazing fish taco’s almost daily. Aulani’s last sit down restaurant to mention is The Olelo Room which features continental breakfast with your morning coffee, including espresso beverages. Afternoon cocktails with small plate appetizers.

In addition to the restaurants, Aulani has added a number of quick-service options. One Paddle, Two Paddle for burgers, sandwiches, and other tasty fare. Bounce over to Lava Shack to refill your mug and grab some soft-serve frozen yogurt. You can also stop by the Papalua Shave Ice shack for a true Hawaiian specialty. One last quick service for you is located on the beach itself, Little ‘Opihi’s will be a grab and go option for those on the run with no time to sit down.

Aulani truly offers something for everyone. I will continue to share many secrets from this Hawaiian resort for you to learn more. We’ll cover the Menehune, the excursion offerings, outdoor movie watching, Hawaiian Craft Making, Aunty’s Beach House for the kids, and much more.

  1. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit Aulani three times now. I love the makahiki buffet- it has VASTLY improved since the resort first opened. The tempura and the fish dishes are my favorites. The ribs are good too.

If you want a day by the beach, or are wanting something ‘to go’ there is a great Island Market across the street that offers lots of fresh salads, sandwiches and product, along with Hawaiian souvenirs.

And Just Tacos, also across the way, has the most AMAZING Ling Hai Mui margarita- I dream of it!
