New Aerial Views From Bioreconstruct Show Massive Progress on Piston Peak and Villains Land at Magic Kingdom
Magic Kingdom’s largest expansion ever is looking less like a rumor on a map and more like a full-scale construction takeover. New aerial photos from bioreconstruct show just how enormous the combined Piston Peak National Park and Villains Land work zone has become, stretching from the former Rivers of America deep into backstage areas behind Frontierland and Liberty Square.

The former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island are now almost completely gone, replaced by graded earth, excavated areas, construction roads, utility work, and staging zones. Piston Peak National Park will occupy the area directly behind Frontierland and Liberty Square, while Villains Land will extend even farther beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad into what was previously backstage space.
A recently installed tower crane now rises near the center of the Piston Peak site, with crews continuing foundation and infrastructure work near The Haunted Mansion and the former Liberty Square Riverboat landing. Disney is also expected to maintain a waterfront element in the area with a new waterway separating parts of Piston Peak from Liberty Square and Frontierland. Near Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, excavation and utility work continue around the attraction’s outer perimeter, while a new visual barrier helps separate guests from the massive construction zone.
Piston Peak National Park is set to include two attractions, Cars Ridge Run Rally and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along, along with landscapes inspired by the American West and national parks, including forests, mountains, waterways, and geysers. Farther beyond Piston Peak, the Villains Land site remains mostly in the early preparation phase, with cleared land, earthmoving equipment, and utility work visible across the future expansion area.
Disney has said Villains Land will feature two major attractions along with dining and shopping inspired by some of the company’s most infamous animated villains. The aerial photos also reveal several other projects surrounding Magic Kingdom, including construction on a new multi-story backstage office building near Adventureland and additional work tied to the reconfiguration of Floridian Way.

Several mature trees removed from the former Rivers of America area are also being stored nearby and could eventually return as part of the new landscaping. Disney has not yet announced opening dates for either Piston Peak National Park or Villains Land, but one thing is very clear from above: Magic Kingdom’s skyline and footprint are changing in a very big way.
