Walt Disney World Plans to Add 5,000 Jobs in Central Florida Over Next Five Years
Walt Disney World is preparing for some serious growth in Central Florida, and that means thousands of new Cast Members will soon be joining the magic according to reporting from WESH News 2. Disney plans to add 5,000 jobs in the region over the next five years as the resort moves forward with a major slate of new attractions, experiences, and expansion projects.

Walt Disney World currently employs approximately 80,000 Cast Members and receives more than 300 job applications each day, showing there is no shortage of people hoping to earn their own Disney nametag. For many of those future Cast Members, their Disney careers will begin at Disney University. New hires take part in Disney Traditions before moving into training for their specific roles, with positions like housekeeping and concierge receiving additional on-site.

Disney Ambassador Kylee Withers described the company as “people-first,” pointing to the Cast Members working both in front of guests and behind the scenes as a major part of creating the Walt Disney World experience. Disney’s massive costuming operation is one example, employing around 1,500 Cast Members across 50 different roles and managing roughly 2.5 million garments. Walt Disney World says it operates the largest working wardrobe in the world.
Those entry-level positions can also become the beginning of much longer Disney careers. According to the company, three out of every five Disney leaders started in hourly roles, while full-time Cast Members working in professional, leadership, and skilled positions remain with Disney for an average of 12 years. Chef Barry Montville is one example, beginning as a line cook 29 years ago and going on to work at more than a dozen restaurants before moving into catering services.
