Walt Disney Imagineering Files New Permit for EPCOT’s CommuniCore Plaza

Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new Notice of Commencement for work in the CommuniCore Plaza area, with the permit calling for the installation of “set elements.” The project will be handled by Jon Richards Company FL, a contractor that frequently works on Walt Disney Imagineering projects. While Disney hasn’t revealed exactly what these new set elements will be, the timing has fans speculating about what’s on the way.

CommuniCore Plaza has become one of EPCOT’s most flexible event spaces, currently hosting the ¡Celebración Encanto! sing-along while also serving as a hub during the park’s seasonal festivals. With the EPCOT International Food & Wine Festival kicking off on August 27, it’s possible this permit is related to festival preparations, such as new décor, marketplace theming, or entertainment enhancements. Of course, it could also be for an entirely different project, as the permit itself offers few clues.

As with many Disney permits, the paperwork doesn’t tell the whole story, and Disney has not announced what these new set elements will include. We’ll be keeping an eye on the project as more details become available to see what’s in store for one of EPCOT’s newest gathering spaces.
