According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office, Lilo & Stitch star Daveigh Chase died of natural causes stemming from Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). The official report also listed chronic polysubstance use under “other significant conditions” contributing to her passing in the hospital.
Following her death, controversy has emerged regarding a GoFundMe campaign launched by her boyfriend, Roy Hernandez. Chase’s former manager, John Ryan, claims the fundraiser’s proceeds are not being used for the actress’s expenses. Instead, Ryan states that Chase’s family is completely handling her cremation and funeral arrangements, adding that her father, John Schwallier, “never signed any paperwork over to this so-called boyfriend.”

Born in Las Vegas in 1990, Chase began her formal vocal and dance training at a young age. While best known for her iconic roles in Lilo & Stitch and The Ring, her diverse acting career also included memorable performances in Donnie Darko, Big Love, Spirited Away, Jack Goes Home, and American Romance.
