Disney Updates Grand Floridian Gingerbread House Plans, Softening Earlier Retirement Reports
Just days after reports surfaced that the beloved gingerbread house at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa had been permanently retired, Disney has updated its messaging, leaving the door open, at least a little, for the fan-favorite holiday tradition’s future.

On the official Grand Floridian holiday webpage, Disney now says: “This holiday season at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Guests can enjoy elegant seasonal décor and festive offerings, along with new miniature gingerbread displays featured throughout the Resort. To help keep the lobby flowing smoothly for Resort Guests, the traditional large gingerbread house will not be offered this year.” Notably, the statement only references the 2026 holiday season and does not say the iconic display has been permanently discontinued.
That wording is a significant change from earlier reports that suggested the life-sized gingerbread house had been retired for good. While Disney has not announced any plans for the massive edible display to return in future years, the updated language stops short of calling it a permanent farewell. Instead, Disney points to new miniature gingerbread displays that will be featured throughout the resort this holiday season while citing guest traffic flow through the recently reimagined lobby as the reason the traditional house will not be offered this year.

The Grand Floridian Gingerbread House has been a Walt Disney World holiday tradition for more than two decades, drawing thousands of guests each season with its incredible craftsmanship, festive atmosphere, and sweet treats sold from inside the display itself. Although fans will certainly miss seeing the towering gingerbread masterpiece in 2026, Disney’s latest statement offers a small glimmer of hope that this may not be the final chapter after all. Until Disney confirms otherwise, it appears the gingerbread house is simply taking another holiday season off.
