Howard University, a prominent research institution in Washington, D.C., presented Iger with the honorary degree to celebrate his professional legacy and his enduring partnership with the school.

The honorary Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) is a distinction typically bestowed upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional influence in sectors such as public service, business, and education. By conferring this degree, universities recognize leaders whose careers have shaped society and left a lasting imprint on the cultural landscape.

“I must say, there’s something very special about this,” Iger said while accepting the honor. “Part of it is the personal connection that I have through Chadwick Boseman and my friend Reggie Simmons. Part of it is just what Howard stands for – its reputation, its meaning.”

Iger’s recognition highlights a deep-rooted connection between Disney and Howard University. Under his leadership, the company was instrumental in launching the Disney Storytellers Fund and provided vital support for the development of the Chadwick A. Boseman College of Fine Arts Center. This partnership serves as a tribute to the late Black Pantherstar and Howard alumnus, who graduated from the university in 2000.

In an interview leading up to the commencement, Iger shared valuable insights for the next generation of professionals. He urged graduates to prioritize adaptability, noting that in an evolving job market, human-centric skills like creative thinking and relationship-building remain indispensable. Addressing the rise of new technology, he specifically encouraged the class to view artificial intelligence as a powerful “enabler” rather than a threat.

Iger’s storied career includes a transformative 15-year run as CEO beginning in 2005, followed by a high-profile return to the helm in 2022. His tenure is defined by the strategic acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Fox, as well as the successful global launch of Disney+.
