Universal Studios Hollywood has officially set a new standard for fan events. We attended the Media Night on April 23, 2026, and if there was one takeaway, it’s that Universal has mastered the art of bringing anime to life with a scale usually reserved for the big screen.

If you’re a fan of One Piece or Sailor Moon, this isn’t just a theme park event—it’s a pilgrimage.

The Crown Jewel: ONE PIECE Grand Pirate Show

While 2025 gave us a taste of the Straw Hat Crew, the 2026 One Piece Grand Pirate Show is a full-blown spectacle that takes over the WaterWorld arena.

Inspired by the legendary production at Universal Studios Japan, this live stunt show is pure adrenaline. Seeing Luffy, Zoro, and the rest of the crew battle it out with high-dive stunts, massive pyrotechnics, and “Devil Fruit” powers brought to life through practical effects was breathtaking. The comedic timing—especially from Buggy the Clown—keeps the spirit of the manga alive even during the most intense fight sequences.

The ONE PIECE: Grand Pirate Show is, quite simply, the best live entertainment we have seen in years. Inspired by the legendary production at Universal Studios Japan, this isn’t just a “show”—it’s a 20-minute stunt extravaganza.

• The Plot: The Straw Hat Crew—Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Chopper—land on Midori Island in search of rare “Pop Greens.” Naturally, things go south when the Marines and the villainous Buggy the Clown crash the party.

• The Spectacle: Expect explosive pyrotechnics, high-dive stunts, and a level of comedic timing that perfectly captures the spirit of the manga.
• Don’t Miss: After the splash-filled finale, head over to the ONE PIECE Fan Zone for photo ops and a stop at Sanji’s Galley for some “Luffy’s Meat on the Bone.”

Moon Prism Power: Sailor Moon in Hollywood

For many, the biggest draw of Fan Fest Nights 2026 is the West Coast debut of the Pretty Guardians.

• The Movie: Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon the Miracle: Moon Palace Chapter Deluxe at the DreamWorks Theatre is a must-see. This CG anime short film (presented in Japanese with English subtitles) is an immersive 4D experience. You aren’t just watching a battle for the Legendary Silver Crystal; you’re feeling the rumble of the Moon Palace and the rush of magic as Super Sailor Moon unleashes her power.

• The Meet and Greet: Located just outside the theater, the Sailor Moon Meet and Greet is a dream come true for fans. The costume is meticulously detailed, and the Guardian, Sailor Moon, perfectly embodied her character.

• Tip: The lines move quickly, but they are popular—head here immediately after a screening of the film (or before). It’s a must see!

Beyond the Anime: What Else to See

• Scooby-Doo x Universal Monsters: A hilarious and spooky walkthrough on the backlot where you help the Mystery Inc. gang. The exciting escapade will challenge them to solve a mystery involving the most legendary Universal Monsters in cinematic history, including Frankenstein, Dracula, Bride of Frankenstein and Wolfman, as they navigate portions of Universal’s world-famous outdoor film sets, from the cobblestone streets of Little Europe to the iconic Court of Miracles, the original filming location for such historic Universal horror films as Frankenstein and The Wolf Man.

• The Forbidden Forest: A new Harry Potter experience where you use “spell-casting” skills to help a Hippogriff. This new, unique, walk-through experience will take guests into the depths of the Forbidden Forest in search of a lost Hippogriff. With guidance from a Hogwarts Professor, they will encounter magical creatures and familiar beasts as they face a series of obstacles which will require the guests to summon their bravery and spell-casting skills to help a Hippogriff in need.

• DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: Secrets of Waterdeep. This fan-favorite immersive experience returns due to popular demand, along with some enhancements. Inspired by the World’s Greatest Roleplaying Game™, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS (D&D), this epic walk-through experience will welcome guests and fans to partake in a one-of-a-kind adventure and explore the fantastic world of D&D. Guests will join the Harpers—a heroic spy network—to foil a plot by the legendary beholder Xanathar and save the city of Waterdeep.

• Yoshi’s Celebration: In Super Nintendo World, you can meet multi-colored Yoshis (including the new Purple and Pink variants) for the first time. They were so cute!

Our Final Verdict

Universal Fan Fest Nights 2026 has successfully bridged the gap between a traditional theme park night and a massive fan convention. The One Piece Stage Show sets a new bar for live stunts, and the Sailor Moon integration feels like a long-overdue love letter to anime fans.

If you have even a passing interest in these franchises, grab a Dining Pass, don your best cosplay, and get to the park. This is the “Grand Line” of theme park events.
