Closer Look at the Iconic Sorcerer Mickey Hat

The iconic Sorcerer Mickey hat has returned to Disney’s Hollywood Studios! It is now part of the facade of The Magic of Disney Animation.

The newly reimagined facade draws its creative inspiration directly from the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California. Beyond its real-world connection, the design serves as a heartfelt homage to Hollywood Studios’ own history, echoing the look of the massive sorcerer hat icon that famously anchored the park’s central hub for over a decade.

The centerpiece of this transformation is the giant hat, which now sits proudly atop the entrance marquee. While the hat itself is in place, the marquee remains a work in progress; crews have spent the last several weeks focused on the structural overhang and a fresh, vibrant repainting of the entire building to complete the studio-inspired aesthetic.

The return of the hat is just the beginning of the “pixie dust” being sprinkled on this area. Here is what we know about the reimagined space:

• Opening Date: The newly reimagined courtyard area is set to open to guests on May 26, 2026.
• The Magic of Disney Animation: Opening later this summer, this family-friendly experience will feature drawing classes with a new Olaf Audio-Animatronic, an enchanted art gallery, and a “Drawn to Wonderland” playground for the little ones.
• Hollywood Heritage: The area will even feature character handprints and footprints in the concrete, just like the real Grauman’s Chinese Theatre!
• Entertainment: The courtyard will also continue to host The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and a brand-new Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! show.
