Josh D’Amaro Confirms Disney Layoffs Are Underway

Disney’s new CEO Josh D’Amaro has confirmed that layoffs are now happening across parts of The Walt Disney Company, following earlier reports that roughly 1,000 jobs could be cut. In a memo sent to employees, D’Amaro said the company has already begun notifying impacted workers as Disney continues reshaping parts of its business in response to industry changes and internal restructuring.

According to the memo, Disney has spent the past several months reviewing ways to streamline operations and build what D’Amaro described as a more agile and technologically enabled workforce. He tied the decision in part to the company’s recently announced unified enterprise marketing and brand organization, suggesting that this latest move is part of a broader effort to reorganize how Disney operates behind the scenes. While he did not specify exactly which divisions are being affected, previous reporting has suggested marketing could be among the hardest hit.

D’Amaro said the cuts are not a reflection of the employees losing their roles or the overall health of the company, but rather part of Disney’s ongoing effort to manage resources and reinvest in the business. He also said Disney plans to support affected employees through the transition with guidance and resources. It is a tough headline for a company built on magic, but this move shows Disney is continuing to make major behind-the-scenes changes as it looks to its next chapter under D’Amaro’s leadership.
