Walt Disney Imagineering has released a brand-new episode of Imagineer That!, starring the witty mini-animatronic Tom Morrow 2.0.
In this latest installment, Tom pulls back the curtain on how Walt Disney Imagineering and Disney Live Entertainment achieve the impossible: perfectly synchronizing music, lighting, and special effects. The video explores the high-tech orchestration that brings nighttime parade floats and live productions to life across Disney Parks worldwide.

To break down the complex mechanics of these audiovisual productions, Tom meets with Clint and Brian from Disney Live Entertainment. They reveal that the secret to maintaining perfect harmony along the parade route is Linear Time Code (LTC). This audio-based timing signal acts as a universal heartbeat, allowing onboard lighting, video, and show effects to stay perfectly synchronized no matter where the float travels.
The floats also utilize GPS signals to pinpoint their exact location within the park. This ensures that the surrounding area speakers—often cleverly hidden within the local scenery—trigger the correct themed audio at just the right moment. Remarkably, this same sophisticated technology is scaled down into a compact form for individual costumed performers, ensuring that everyone between the floats remains perfectly in sync with the rhythm of the show.
