Disney Ambassadors Go Inside the Big Thunder Mountain Overhaul
Amidst the wave of excitement for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Disney World Ambassadors took to social media to provide an exclusive, behind-the-scenes glimpse at the latest ride enhancements.
In a recent Instagram spotlight, the Walt Disney World Ambassadors offered an exclusive preview of the enhancements coming to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The video features Ambassadors Kylee Withers and Phelicia Blake on-site with a pair of Walt Disney Imagineers, who share firsthand insights into the attraction’s extensive multi-month transformation.
This behind-the-scenes clip provides the first clear views inside the attraction since its January closure, highlighting the extensive track replacement across the coaster’s layout. The update also extends to the ride vehicles, which now feature refreshed seating. While maintaining their vintage aesthetic, the seats have been upgraded with thick, beige padding that looks significantly more cushioned than the previous version—a welcome upgrade for those high-speed turns!
Nick, a mechanical engineer with Walt Disney Imagineering, provides a concise breakdown of the high-tech upgrades and structural changes arriving at the Frontierland coaster:
“On the ride engineering side, we replaced the track, the vehicles, and the ride control system. And with all the improvements that we’ve made to the ride, we’ve actually been able to lower the height requirement from 40 inches to 38 inches … Because of all that work we’ve put in, it’s just as comfortable if not more than it ever has been in the past.”
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopens on May 3.
