Figment Joins “How NOT to Draw” Series

Just in time for his birthday, everyone’s favorite purple dragon is leaping from the EPCOT tracks to the small screen! A brand-new “How NOT to Draw” short starring Figment has officially debuted on the Disney Channel Animation YouTube channel.

How not to draw

Narrated by legendary Disney superfan Neil Patrick Harris, the short features a whimsical back-and-forth between Harris and the purple dragon as they draw inspiration from the world around them. While the voice sounds remarkably familiar to the version currently heard on the Journey Into Imagination attraction at EPCOT, it actually marks a new era for the character.

A.J. LoCascio (who first took up the mantle in the Disney Speedstorm game) is officially the new voice of Figment. He follows in the footsteps of several Disney legends:

  • Billy Barty: The original voice who defined the character in 1983.
  • Corey Burton: Voiced the “Journey Into Your Imagination” era.
  • Dave Goelz: The voice fans have heard in the parks since 2002.

For eagle-eyed Disney historians, the short is a treasure trove of nostalgia. It features deep-cut references to every iteration of the attraction, including the iconic “Cat” and “Bat” blocks—a nod to the original 1983 ride where Figment would magically transform the words. You’ll also spot the sheet music for the cult-classic anthem “One Little Spark,” penned by the legendary Sherman Brothers.

The “How NOT to Draw” short is a literal love letter to EPCOT history, packed with “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” Easter eggs. Fans will spot the iconic upside-down footprints that currently lead guests through the attraction’s queue, alongside a plasma ball with the word “Science” tucked behind it—a clear tribute to the “Science” scene from the 1983 original. Even the pavilion’s famous glass pyramids make a cameo as small decorative pieces in the background!

The nostalgia trip doesn’t stop there:

  • Orange Bird: Keep an eye out for a sweet nod to everyone’s favorite citrus friend from the Sunshine Tree Terrace.
  • The Dream Mobile: The legendary flying machine from the original Journey Into Imagination is lovingly referenced, honoring Figment’s whimsical roots.
  • The Big Reveal: While the short was officially scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, Disney surprised fans by dropping it early on March 1.

This early release serves as the perfect kickoff for Figment’s upcoming birthday celebration on March 5!
