Since its record-breaking Thanksgiving debut, Disney’s animated sequel has been a theatrical juggernaut, claiming nearly every 2025 box office record—including the titles for highest-grossing film internationally ($1.425 billion) and worldwide ($1.85 billion). However, the top spot in North America remained elusive as A Minecraft Movie held a narrow lead with $424.08 million. Now, after a remarkable 13-week run in the domestic top 10, Zootopia 2 has officially hopped into first place with a total of $424.2 million.
2025 was a record-breaking year for Disney, marking its most successful theatrical run since the pre-pandemic era. This resurgence was fueled by three massive billion-dollar hits: Zootopia 2, the live-action Lilo & Stitch, and Avatar: Fire and Ash. Together, this powerhouse trio helped propel Disney’s global ticket sales past the $6 billion mark.

Nearly a decade after the original, Zootopia 2 made a thunderous return, shattering records with a $559 million worldwide five-day Thanksgiving debut. This massive launch wasn’t just the best start ever for an animated film; it also secured the spot as the fourth-biggest global opening in cinematic history, trailing only three Avengers and Spider-Man blockbusters.
Thanks to glowing reviews and incredible word-of-mouth, the sequel became the fastest PG-rated film to hit $1 billion, reaching the milestone in just 17 days. Since then, it has officially overtaken Inside Out 2 as the highest-grossing animated movie of all time and even topped Avengers: Endgame as the biggest MPA title ever in China. Currently sitting as the eighth-biggest film in history, the movie reunited Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) for a brand-new mystery involving a reptilian resident voiced by Ke Huy Quan.
With this level of record-breaking success, a Zootopia 3 announcement from Disney seems like a sure bet!
