Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom Tests New Single Rider Queue

Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom quietly tested a new single rider queue on Tuesday, January 27, giving guests a possible glimpse at a faster way to blast through the stars solo. According to Cast Members, the test ran for a short window from 10 am to 12 pm, with additional tests expected in the coming days or weeks depending on crowd levels.

Normally, single riders at Space Mountain wait in the standard standby line and can mention they are a solo guest when reaching the Lightning Lane merge point. In those cases, Cast Members may fit a single rider into an earlier rocket if space allows, but this usually only trims about 10 minutes off the wait. During the recent test, Cast Members noted that the new system moved single riders through the queue much more efficiently and felt the trial went well overall.

During the test period, guests were informed that a single rider option was available and were told exactly how it worked. Parties choosing this option agreed to be split up before entering the Lightning Lane queue. At the merge point, single riders identified themselves again and were directed into a dedicated single rider queue on the Omega side of the load area, while the Alpha side continued to serve standby guests only.

Because Lightning Lane guests tap their MagicBands again at the merge point, the system prevents guests from falsely claiming single rider status at the main entrance. Single riders were then used to fill empty seats in rockets with Lightning Lane guests on the Omega side, helping maximize ride capacity while keeping standby and Lightning Lane operations running smoothly. While nothing has been officially announced, this test could signal a more permanent single rider option coming to one of Magic Kingdom’s most iconic attractions.
