Fast & Furious: Supercharged to Close for Good When New Coaster Debuts, Ending a Notorious Chapter at Universal Studios Florida

Universal Orlando has officially clarified the future of two very different Fast and Furious developments, and the distinction matters. The upcoming Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift roller coaster is replacing Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, which closed in August 2025 and has already been fully demolished at Universal Studios Florida. That massive coaster footprint is where Hollywood Drift will rise, with Universal confirming a 2027 opening for the high speed attraction that promises drifting effects, rotation, and a much smoother ride experience than its predecessor. Rip Ride Rockit’s exit marked the end of an aging thrill machine, but the real headline for many fans comes with what happens on the other side of the park.

Fast & Furious Supercharged at Universal Studios to Close Permantely

When Hollywood Drift opens, Fast & Furious: Supercharged will close permanently. The screen heavy attraction, located in the park’s New York area, has long been one of the most criticized rides at the resort, often cited as a low point in Universal’s modern attraction lineup. Originally designed as part of the Studio Tour at Universal Studios Hollywood, the Florida version expanded the concept with multiple pre shows and exclusive footage, but without the context of a tram tour, the experience never quite clicked. Its closure has been rumored for years, and Universal confirming its end alongside the new coaster feels like a long awaited mercy pull for many guests.

With Supercharged finally heading to the scrapyard, fan speculation has shifted into high gear. Two replacement ideas dominate the conversation, with many calling for the long requested return of Back to the Future to Universal Studios Florida in a modern attraction format. Others are rooting for a full scale Ghostbusters themed ride that leans into practical sets, physical effects, and spooky fun instead of wall to wall screens. Nothing has been announced for the Supercharged site yet, but its confirmed closure signals that Universal is ready to move on from one of its most infamous misfires and give this corner of the park a second chance at greatness.
