Zootopia 2 Dethrones Frozen II as Walt Disney Animation’s Biggest Film Ever
Zootopia 2 has officially rewritten the Disney record books!
As of December 31, 2025, the blockbuster sequel is now Walt Disney Animation Studios’ highest-grossing film in history, amassing a staggering $1.46 billion at the global box office. With this milestone, it has officially overtaken the previous record-holder, Frozen II, which earned $1.45 billion during its 2019 theatrical run.

Zootopia 2 continues its record-breaking dominance, raking in $333 million domestically and a massive $1.13 billion from international markets. Even in its fifth week of release, the sequel showed incredible legs over the Christmas holiday, surging with an additional $87.9 million.
The film’s path to the top was a sprint; it reached the $1 billion mark in just 17 days, setting a new speed record for any PG-rated movie in history. Its most significant triumph, however, is in China. While many Hollywood exports have struggled recently, Nick and Judy have become a cultural phenomenon, zooming past $500 million at the Chinese box office alone. To put that dominance in perspective, Disney’s other winter blockbuster, Avatar: Fire and Ash, is currently nearing $100 million in the same region following its December 19 debut.
Zootopia 2 now sits in an elite circle as one of only three films to surpass the $1 billion mark globally this year. It joins the ranks of Disney’s own live-action Lilo & Stitch remake, which earned $1.03 billion, and China’s animated sensation Ne Zha 2, the year’s reigning champion with a staggering $2.2 billion.
The record-breaking sequel reunites fans with the iconic duo of Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). Shifting from the humble beginnings of the 2016 original, the pair are now seasoned buddy cops tasked with unraveling a high-stakes reptilian mystery. With a new threat looming over the city, the fox and bunny must work together to prevent Zootopia from being turned upside down.
