To Infinity and Beyond: Buzz Lightyear Returns to Once Upon a Toy

Disney Springs visitors can finally breathe a sigh of relief: a beloved guardian has returned to his post. The iconic Buzz Lightyear statue, which stands sentry outside the Once Upon a Toy entrance, has officially returned to his pedestal following a brief disappearance this fall.

A Fresh New Look for the Space Ranger

If Buzz looks a little more “intergalactic” than usual, it isn’t just your imagination. After being removed earlier this season, the statue appears to have received a fresh coat of paint. His signature white, green, and purple suit is once again vibrant, looking as though he just stepped off the assembly line at Al’s Toy Barn.

During his absence, Disney Imagineers kept the area tidy by placing potted plants over the empty pedestal. While the greenery was a nice touch, it was no substitute for Star Command’s finest. Now that he’s back, a small but important update has been added to his blue pedestal: a clear “No Climbing” sign to ensure the Space Ranger stays in tip-top shape for years to come.

The Toy Box is Whole Again

Buzz isn’t the only toy who has spent some time in the “repair shop” recently. This refurbishment mirrors the journey of his neighbor, Mr. Potato Head, who stands on the opposite side of the entrance.

  • Mr. Potato Head: Was removed back in July for a similar touch-up. During his time away, he was also replaced by a single potted plant before returning with a refreshed look.
  • The Height Difference: To keep things cinematic, Mr. Potato Head famously stands on a container of Play-Doh, giving him the extra height needed to look the Space Ranger in the eye.

Why the Disappearance?

While Disney hasn’t released an official mission log, these types of removals are standard routine refurbishment. Constant exposure to the Florida sun and humidity can dull the finish of these outdoor figures. By taking them “off-planet” for a few weeks, maintenance teams can ensure the colors remain bright and the structures remain safe for the thousands of photos taken by guests daily.

Are you glad to see Buzz Lightyear back in his rightful place at Disney Springs? Whether you’re there for the nostalgia or the perfect Instagram backdrop, the entrance to Once Upon a Toy finally feels complete again.
