Pixar’s “Gatto” Moves Up to Spring 2027

“Great news for Pixar fans! The upcoming original film Gatto is officially hitting theaters ahead of schedule in 2027. This high-stakes animated adventure follows Nero, a street-smart black cat who finds himself tangled in a dangerous underworld while indebted to a powerful feline mob boss.

Gatto is clawing its way to the big screen sooner than expected! Originally slated for a summer premiere on June 18, 2027, Disney has officially bumped the film up to March 5, 2027. This move pulls the film away from a crowded June corridor that includes heavy hitters like Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and Shrek 5.

The story follows Nero, a music-loving black cat in Venice, Italy, who must navigate a “nightmare” world of superstition and rising tides. Indebted to a ruthless feline mob boss, Nero finds himself forming an unexpected bond with a street musician named Maya—a friendship that may finally lead the scrappy stray to his true purpose.

Fans of Luca will be thrilled to see director Enrico Casarosa and producer Andrea Warren return to their Italian roots for this adventure. Even more exciting is the film’s groundbreaking aesthetic: Gatto will be Pixar’s first feature to utilize a distinct, hand-painted animation style. This innovative look blends Pixar’s signature CG depth with a painterly, 2D texture, making every frame of Venice look like a living piece of art.
