Universal Exploring New Transportation System to Connect Epic Universe With the Rest of Universal Orlando Resort
Universal may be gearing up to seriously upgrade how guests move around its ever-expanding Florida playground. Newly released documents show Universal has officially opened the bidding process for a long-term transportation system that would connect Epic Universe to the rest of Universal Orlando Resort, potentially ending the current buses-only setup once and for all.

The bid request comes from Universal’s Shingle Creek Transit & Utility Community Development District and calls for companies to design, build, operate, and maintain a point-to-point transportation system for the next 25 years. Universal is looking for a future-ready option with an aggressive but realistic timeline, and bidders must meet some hefty requirements, including a $75 million bonding capacity and experience with major infrastructure projects. While no company names were listed, rumors have previously linked Universal with The Boring Company, led by Elon Musk, and that possibility remains on the table.
Bidding officially closed on October 1, but no firm has been selected yet. According to comments shared with the Orlando Business Journal, district officials say proposals are still under review and it is too early to discuss details. The district’s next public meeting is scheduled for January 14, which could be the first time this mysterious project moves into the spotlight.

Epic Universe sits roughly three miles away from the rest of Universal Orlando Resort, and right now buses are the only direct link between the parks. With Epic Universe expected to dramatically increase guest traffic, a more efficient transportation option could be a game-changer. Whether it ends up being a sleek shuttle system, an elevated ride, or something far more futuristic, Universal clearly wants to move guests faster and smarter across its universe.
