A Grand Refresh: New Carpet and Updates Unveil at Disney’s Grand Floridian Lobby

The Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is continuing its comprehensive lobby overhaul, and the latest, most noticeable change is the installation of vibrant, brand-new carpet in the main atrium. Crews have been diligently working, transforming the resort’s iconic Victorian-inspired entrance, with the carpet replacement being a major step in the ongoing project.

Carpet Replacement: Out with the Old, In with the Bold

The extensive work began with sections of the lobby’s center being blocked off, and the old, well-worn, and faded carpet was carefully ripped up for replacement. For a few days, the entire central space was enclosed by curtains to allow crews the room and privacy to work, with gray carpet underlayment visible where the old flooring once lay.

By October 9, the transformation was significant. All the old carpet was gone, and the brand-new carpet had been laid out, showcasing a striking difference. While both the old and new designs feature a Victorian-inspired floral theme, the new carpeting is far more vibrant and detailed.

A New Look Underfoot

The revamped design features bigger flowers that take up more of the space compared to the older pattern, which had a simpler green dotted section around its exterior.

  • The main color of the carpet’s center is a blue hue, consistent with the new flooring in the check-in area, and features a dark filigree pattern.
  • The large, eye-catching flowers are rendered in shades of pink, purple, blue, and yellow.

The replacement is expected to be finished quickly, allowing the Grand Floridian to soon reopen some of the lobby’s lounge space to guests.

Planters, Lighting, and the Birdcage Bar

Beyond the flooring, crews are addressing other elements of the spacious lobby:

  • Planters: Repainting is underway on the planters, and paneling has been removed from some of the surrounding walls, suggesting they are being refurbished or replaced. The planters, with the exception of those around the birdcage bar, had largely been untouched during the earlier phases of construction.
  • Lighting: Guests also noticed several new lamp shades laid out, indicating an upcoming refresh of the lobby’s lighting fixtures.
  • Walkways: Despite the active construction, walkways remain open around the perimeter of the lobby, ensuring guests can still easily move through the area.

Birdcage Bar Progress and a New Mural

The last few days have also brought considerable progress to the Birdcage Bar. Crews have been actively installing faux wood paneling and counters, a step that appears nearly complete.

Adding a final flourish to the area, the birdcage elevator is now back open, featuring a stunning new mural painted on the wall around its doors. The art depicts a beautiful scene of a vine-covered trellis, palm trees, and birds. While work in this specific area isn’t fully complete—with more likely to be painted on the white paneling above the doors—the new mural adds a fresh, elegant touch to the space.
