Construction Underway at Former Cool Ship Location in Magic Kingdom
Crews are now actively preparing the former Cool Ship site for a new foundation in Tomorrowland at Magic Kingdom, signaling the beginning of construction on the location. While the exact nature of the future attraction or offering remains under wraps, the visible progress indicates that something new is indeed on the horizon for this prominent spot in the park.

Construction is actively underway at the former Cool Ship location in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. Crews have laid out small wooden strips in the dirt, outlining what appears to be a new foundation. Short pieces of rebar now protrude from the ground, reinforcing this new frame. Additionally, a wooden frame has been placed in a nearby planter, which has been filled with tightly packed dirt, suggesting a broader scope for this new development.
After its sudden closure and complete removal in May, the Cool Ship’s future has been a topic of much speculation. While the Walt Disney World website states the outdoor location is “expected to reopen later this year,” it remains unclear if it will retain its familiar appearance, including the popular Cool Scanner mist spray, or if a completely new design is in store. The previous Cool Ship and its adjacent Cool Scanner were popular landmarks, and their replacement is eagerly anticipated by park visitors.
The work at the former Cool Ship site is part of a larger ongoing transformation in Tomorrowland. Nearby, the Astro Orbiter is still closed as it undergoes a complete refurbishment. Earlier this week, the Astro Orbiter’s exterior structure was finalized, and the iconic rocket-shaped ride vehicles are expected to return soon for testing. These simultaneous projects indicate a significant effort to refresh and enhance Tomorrowland for future guests.
