Set on the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been mortal enemies for generations, the story follows Hiccup (Mason Thames, The Black Phone)—the inventive yet underestimated son of Chief Stoick the Vast (voiced once again by Gerard Butler). Hiccup’s world changes forever when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Together, they challenge centuries of tradition, unveiling the true nature of dragons and reshaping Viking society.
The stellar cast includes BAFTA nominee Nico Parker (Dumbo, The Last of Us) as the fierce and determined Astrid, and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) as Gobber, the quirky village blacksmith. Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club), and Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) are among the ensemble cast bringing the world of Berk to life.
Directed, written, and produced by DeBlois, the film retains the core themes of courage, friendship, and leadership that made the animated trilogy a global phenomenon. With breathtaking realism and cutting-edge visual effects, the live-action adaptation is part of the Filmed for IMAX® program, ensuring an immersive experience for audiences worldwide.
The initial trailer has been well received online, with fans generally happy with the manner in which the animated dragons have been incorporated into a live action film. Fans are also noting how closly the scenes reflect the original film, hinting at how the live-action adaptation will closely match the beloved animated original.
