From K9 handlers to cashiers, cast members create magic for guests passing through the parks and resorts daily. For many visitors, this is what makes Disney a truly magical place. Disney parks fans often refer to visiting the parks as “coming home”. It’s the time and care that cast members take with the guests that makes visiting the parks a welcoming and warm experience.
A Big Suprise for One Young Guest
For one 11-year-old boy named Matthew from NY visiting the parks was an experience he will never forget. After reading a Disney Parks Blog about K9 handlers Matthew’s mom Jaimie wrote a letter to Disney telling them all about her son’s passion to become a K9 handler. She even included an adorable picture of him in his NYPD K9-themed Halloween costume. She even wrote the team saying “No video games for him. Instead, he is spending his second summer in an NYPD camp five days a week!”

K9 Security Cast Members Plan a Surprise
Security cast members were so touched by this young man’s ambitions they felt they had to do something special for him. They decided to gather up some of their K9 Companions and create a magical moment for Matthew he will never forget.
Matthew was invited to meet the team, learn about their roles, and of course, say hello to the dogs. K9 Handler Damascus Bing and his K9 partner, Simba, introduced Matthew to some of their four-legged peers and even gave him a tour of one of their K9 vehicles.

“We had the best time today,” Matthew’s mother, Jamie, said. “You’re all so wonderful and I can’t thank you enough. It was real Disney magic.” Matthew and his family weren’t the only ones touched by this experience. It meant a lot to the team to see how much love and appreciation guests have for what they do.
K9 Handlers Touched by Guest Appreciation
“When we hear others want to be K9 handlers, it means there are people watching who realize what we’re doing and appreciate it,” said Damascus. “Seeing kids smile and enjoy themselves, knowing they’re safe and happy because we’re here protecting them, is what really drives us.”
We hope to see Matthew on Disney’s K9 handler team one day. Next time you are in the parks take a moment to appreciate all the cast members who work so hard behind the scenes to make your visit a safe and magical place.
