Disney Working on New Female Detective Movie

It looks like Disney has their sites on a new potential franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has acquired an untitled project from a new screenwriter named Ashley Bradley. The film is set to be produced under Marc Guggenheim, co-writer of this summer’s ‘Green Lantern’.

While nothing specific is known about the film, the basic storyline is about a young woman who discovers that she is the descendant of a legendary detective, and through a series of events, must take the mantle herself. The film will also be done through Collider studios, and this will be their first production. This sounds like a film that will greatly appeal to young girls and families, primarily those who enjoy things like ‘Nancy Drew’. It’s good to see Disney reaching out to this demographic by using more than the princesses. It definitely has some potential, but a lot of it will rely on who they decide to cast in the role. This is a project I’ll be keeping an eye on it. More when we know it.
