Disney Gossip: Is Disney retheming Space Mountain to Buzz Lightyear?

Disney is currently working on retheming Splash Mountain at both Disneyland and Magic Kingdom. The theme of the attraction will be changed to ‘The Princess and the Frog.’ Now, a rumor is circulating that Disneyland will be retheming Space Mountain as well.

With the recent release of Disney Pixar’s new animated film ‘Lightyear’, it’s rumored Space Mountain will receive a ‘Lightyear’ retheme.

Per the report:

“The rumor suggests that Space Mountain will receive a permanent Lightyear re-theme, which will be announced at D23 this fall. The main basis of this rumor is the use of a structure that looks similar to Space Mountain’s silhouette in Lightyear, which has appeared in promotional trailers. That structure appears to be the launchpad for Star Command that will eventually send Lightyear on his mission to the cosmos.”

Disney has not officially announced any change or retheme coming to Space Mountain. Disneyland’s Space Mountain is an iconic attraction that has awesome seasonal overlays like Hyperspace Mountain.

Also, Buzz Lightyear already has an attraction in Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is a fun ride for the whole family that allows guests to fight Emperor Zurg and his minions.

This retheming rumor is strictly gossip and one we can’t really see happening. What do you think?
