Tom Holland Jokingly Pitches an Oscar Nomination for ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Performance

Tom Holland as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home

One of the biggest gripes in Hollywood is how superhero films are “ruining cinema” since audiences are surging to theaters with every new release from DC, Sony, and Marvel, while audience numbers continue to decline for films dubbed “Oscar bait” by many moviegoers. The striking difference in numbers has caused a lot of jealousy and anger by actors, directors, and producers alike. Despite all this, Tom Holland got a bit cheeky while on the press tour for Spider-Man: No Way Home and (jokingly) claimed he deserves an Oscar for his performance.

Holland told The Hollywood Reporter, “I do know that I love this character, and I would be sad to say goodbye. But I have achieved basically everything I wanted to achieve as this character, I really think I’m going to win the Oscar for this movie. So there, it’s great.”

Tom was clearly jesting during the interview, but many Marvel fans have been quick to share their support online after the raging success for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The film became the second highest-grossing film during opening weekend to date, only bested by Avengers: Endgame. No Way Home’s success is bound to lead to several nominations in other award ceremonies, but our best guess would say a Best Actor Nomination from The Academy for Tom Holland is very slim given the snubbing superhero films tend to get during award season.
