Red Velvet is a great flavor of cake to have around the holidays, not just because it’s tasty, but because it has a beautiful red color. This cupcake does a great job of contrasting that with a layer of bright white vanilla buttercream frosting, then another layer of frosting that’s a vivid green color. We weren’t lying about the frosting! There’s a lot of it! The gorgeous wreath on top is adorned with a red chocolate bow to complete the Christmas look.

As if this cake wasn’t already packing moisture, there’s a filling inside too. Once you break into it, you’ll find a cream cheese mousse. Because it wouldn’t really be red velvet cake without cream cheese somewhere! The cupcake would already have been a treat without this hidden addition, but it honestly makes a big difference. This is not a dry cupcake and the flavors of each component are distinctive. Often, we can’t truly taste cream cheese in a mousse or frosting, and more than likely frostings end up tasting like pure sugar. This treat was not like that. If you love cupcakes or red velvet cake or frosting, this is a worthwhile stop!
