It’s become holiday tradition for Disney to release a family friendly movie around Thanksgiving. However, the newly released Encanto is already a box office hit for Disney!
“Encanto,” an original Disney animated musical about a gifted family in Colombia, took in $40.3 million at 3,980 theaters in North America between Wednesday and Sunday. Despite being less than the Thanksgiving Box Office for Frozen 2 in 2019, Encanto has landed the best opening weekend for an animated film during the pandemic.

The movie tells the story of the Madrigals, an extraordinary family who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a charmed place called the Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift, every child except Maribel. However, she soon may be the Madrigals last hope when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is now in danger.
Famed Hamilton and Moana composer Lin-Manuel Miranda signed on to the project and from what we have heard we fully expect the Encanto soundtrack to quickly hit #1 on the charts. Disney’s Encanto currently stars Stephanie Beatriz as Mirabel, Diane Guererro as Isabela, Jessica Darrow as Luisa, Carolina Gaitán as Tia Pepa, Mauro Castillo as Tio Félix, Adassa as Dolores, Rhenzy Feliz as Camilo, and Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Antonio , with John Leguizamo as Bruno.
