Tom Holland taking over Robert Downey Jr Role in the MCU

Director Joe Russo, who made both Captain America and Avengers movies, says that Tom Holland is on his way to replacing Robert Downey Jr. as the soul of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2015, Marvel Studios and Sony entered a historic partnership to bring to life another version of Spider-Man that would exist in the MCU. Soon after, Tom Holland was cast in the role, and he’s grown exponentially as a fan-favorite since the departure of Iron Man.

While it’s uncertain what comes next for him after events of the upcoming No Way Home movie, Russo’s recent comment makes it sound like Tom Holland will around in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a little while longer.

According to runtime reports from various movie theaters, Spider-Man: No Way Home will be 150 mins long, giving us a full 2.5 hours of content! The movie will be as long as most of The Avengers Films, making it the longest MCU Spider-Man film and second-longest MCU movie to date.

The film stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Jacob Batalon, and Marisa Tomei all reprising their roles from the previous Spidey films, with Benedict Cumberbatch joining the fray as Doctor Strange (but maybe don’t call him “Stephen,” that’s weird). The film is directed by Jon Watts, and written by Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers; the film is produced by Kevin and Feige Amy Pascal, and executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, JoAnn Perritano, Rachel O’Connor, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach.
