Marvel star Scarlett Johansson is suing Disney over a breach of contract with Black Widow after it was released on Disney+ the same day it was released in theaters.
According to The Wall Street Journal, her agreement with Disney’s guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release, and her salary was based in large part on the box-office performance of the film.
“Disney intentionally induced Marvel’s breach of the agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel,” the lawsuit stated.

‘Black Widow’ recently broke a box office record for “Biggest Box Office Collapse” in the Marvel Cinematic Universe due to it premiering on Disney+ on the same day as in theaters.
According to the lawsuit, Ms. Johansson’s representatives sought to renegotiate her contract after learning of the dual-release strategy for “Black Widow,” which she has said is her ninth and final Marvel movie.
Disney and Marvel were unresponsive, the suit said.
