It appears that Bob Iger might have a future in public service after all. The Disney executive chairman is at the top of President-elect Joe Biden’s wish list for a key ambassador post. According to Hollywood Reporter, Iger is being considered for an ambassador position for either U.K. or China.
Iger considered a run for president of the U.S., but ultimately dropped those plans and went on to engineer Disney’s largest acquisition ever — the $71 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox Inc.’s entertainment assets — a deal the company completed last year.
The U.K. ambassadorship is considered the most plum diplomatic assignment. However, China is an intriguing possibility given Disney’s history with Iger making business relationships there. Either would be a fitting next act for the most successful Hollywood CEO of the modern era. A Biden spokesperson and Disney rep both declined comment.
If Iger, 69, is offered a post and accepts, it would mark the end of his stunning 25-year run at Disney.
